    • Hi Eric and Andrea,

       

      I've been giving some thought to and did some preliminary research for our web hosting needs. While this is not my area of knowledge, I'd like to brain-storm some ideas:

       

      Purpose and Technical Requirements:

      • First, I'd like to confirm that the website's primary function would be informational with a basically static structure, meaning it won't need to have an integrated database. CORRECT

       

      Nonprofit Status:

      • Are we officially registered as a nonprofit, or is this a step we're considering in the near future? This could potentially lead to benefits like free hosting from providers. SHIELD is not a non-profit organization and there is no plan to do so. No legal status (not incorporated). A FDA Collaborative Community?

        • Collaborative Communities: Addressing Health Care Challenges Together | FDA

        • Kevin - Participates in Pathology Innovation Collaborative Community. They have a website, but we believe this may be supported by one of the participants (MGH Centers for Integrated Diagnostics). PIcc Alliance (pathologyinnovationcc.org)

       

      FDA Collaboration:

      • Another option we could explore is whether the FDA might offer us a space, assuming that would align with budgetary regulations. (Might involve pre-pending our domain to http://fda.gov.

        • FDA had said they would not be able to host anything and recommended donations to fund.

       

      Domain Name Registration:

      • SquareSpace's offer at $12 per year seems very reasonable. I could explore discounts for paying ahead to save on costs, if that would be feasible for us to do

       

      Hosting Costs and Benefits:

      • If we can confirm our nonprofit status and provide the necessary documentation, there could be an opportunity to have SquareSpace (or another provider) waive the hosting cost. Their fee for non-commerce hosting is $16 per month. This includes user-friendly templates, security, and scalability for potential traffic growth. Paying annually at $129 could be a cost-effective strategy if we have the funding, in order to minimize the impact of future price increases.

        • DISCUSSION: This seems reasonable and probably the simplest way to move forward if we could get a participant company to “donate” the annual fee ($129 + $12). Could easily be expensed on a corporate credit card for example.
